What if the dominant model of company ownership inverts? What if we’re at the end of an era of companies being owned by external stockholders, and at the beginning of bottom-up ownership by the people who do the work – the employees?

The right solution should combine the best of the digital world and the best of the physical world. It should have the efficiency of Zoom, while providing the meaningful human connection that only happens when people come together. We have a solution that we think combines the best of both worlds.
- A career ending mistake — Bitfield Consulting bitfieldconsulting.com
I want to talk about another kind of career ending mistake, one that affects more than just the unlucky few. Indeed, it's a mistake we're probably all making right now. And that's not planning the end of our careers.
- What is the Red Bead Experiment? maaw.info
The red bead experiment is deceptively simple because it provides a powerful message that is difficult for many to grasp. In summary, the misconception that workers can be meaningfully ranked is based on two faulty assumptions. The first assumption is that each worker can control his or her performance. Deming (1986, 315) estimated that 94 percent of the variation in any system is attributable to the system, not to the people working in the system. The second assumption is that any system variation will be equally distributed across workers. Deming (1986, 353) taught that there is no basis for this assumption in real life experiences.
Conflict within a team is not always a bad thing. Happy teams are not necessarily the most productive. “If we're going to draw an arrow of causality, it's stronger to reword the statement as ‘a productive team is a happy team’,” says Leslie DeChurch, a psychologist at Northwestern University. “Nothing builds cohesion in a team like excellence.”
Avoiding conflict can discourage the creative friction that can generate new or better ideas. Conflict associated with tasks is different from that associated with personalities. Conflict over ideas can be helpful. But when conflicts get personal, things can get ugly.

The problem with coordination is that it adds complexity to our systems which make them harder to change and work with.
- Work Is Work codahale.com
At some point in time, every organization realizes that it’s slowing down. Features take longer to ship, folks spend more and more time in meetings, and everyone gets panicky about estimation and planning. If we’ve internalized essentialist bullshit about “B players hiring C players”, maybe we get nervous about The Bar and hiring. If we’re anxious and uncertain, we might get religion about Agile or Scrum or whatever. If we’re prone to modernist flights of fancy, we might decide to spend our innovation tokens trying to disrupt the 200,000 year old industry of getting humans to work together. If we’re the type to do our eight and hit the gate, we chalk it up as the price of success.
These approaches rarely yield results.

A book - serialized free online - about the art and science of independent consulting.
In his 1959 book, “Landmarks of Tomorrow,” he coined the term “knowledge work,” and argued that autonomy would be the central feature of the new corporate world. Drucker predicted that corporate profits would depend on mental effort, and that each individual knowledge worker, possessing skills too specialized to be broken down into “repetitive, simple, mechanical motions” choreographed from above, would need to decide how to “apply his knowledge as a professional” and monitor his own productivity. “The knowledge worker cannot be supervised closely or in detail,” Drucker wrote, in “The Effective Executive,” from 1967. “He must direct himself.”

- Being Glue — No Idea Blog noidea.dog
Your job title says "software engineer", but you seem to spend most of your time in meetings. You'd like to have time to code, but nobody else is onboarding the junior engineers, updating the roadmap, talking to the users, noticing the things that got dropped, asking questions on design documents, and making sure that everyone's going roughly in the same direction. If you stop doing those things, the team won't be as successful. But now someone's suggesting that you might be happier in a less technical role. If this describes you, congratulations: you're the glue.

- IR35 is easily avoided, but it's time to get with the programme petewilcock.com
The reason I say IR35 is easily avoided is because…well, it is. A significant majority of contractor engagements legitimately fall outside of IR35, but risk being considered inside because of a fundamental lack of understanding of the rules by clients, agencies, and contractors alike.
- Role-based blanket IR35 assessments are unlawful and highly risky contractorcalculator.co.uk
“It’s very easy to recognise a blanket role-based assessment that doesn’t adhere to reasonable care,” comments ContractorCalculator CEO Dave Chaplin. “You ask yourself whether the individual has been assessed. If they haven’t, a proper assessment hasn’t been conducted and the reasonable care requirement therefore hasn’t been met.” The resulting consequences cause a whole host of problems in the supply chain.
